QUEER AND TRANS STUDENTS

IN CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES

Our Stories

 STRUGGLES AND TRIUMPHS

Welcome! Thank you for visiting the website of the Queer and Trans Community College Student Oral History Project. This project tells the stories of approximately 50 queer students in community colleges via video-recorded oral history interviews.

It is our hope that these interviews, and the other resources [insert hyperlink onto “other resources”] provided here, will help community college educators provide more robust and nuanced support for our queer students broadly, and our students of color, disabled and neurodiverse students, and our poor and working-class queer students in particular.

We encourage you to browse our interviews page, where, in addition to finding long interviews, you’ll also find short videos that highlight some important themes in the lives and educational experiences of the students interviewed. Please feel free to show these short videos in meetings and classes at your college.

“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.” – Audre Lorde
